According to the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, the base will be located in Vermiline Parish in southern Louisiana, adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico. It is designed to have an annual launch capacity of thousands, aiming to significantly increase the frequency of launches and expand space access capabilities.

According to the plan, the base will include five launch complexes, each equipped with two launch pads and a propellant storage facility. In addition, the project will include propellant production facilities, power generation facilities, aircraft processing facilities, and accommodation facilities for employees and their families.

Base construction is expected to begin in 2027 and the first launch could be completed as early as 2029. The Louisiana Department of Economic Development said the project is expected to propel Louisiana as a global hub for a new generation of aerospace industry.

Currently, SpaceX builds and launches starships primarily in Texas and Florida. The new Louisiana base provides the company with more launch time and geographic coverage, which is also critical to SpaceX's planned million AI satellites.

According to U.S. media reports, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced on the 24th that the company plans to launch the first batch of AI satellites equipped with NVIDIA chips in the fourth quarter of 2027, and "significantly expand" this in the following year. scale. This is well ahead of SpaceX's previously announced 2028 deployment plan, which aims to accelerate the construction of space data centers.

When talking about the "space optimization" system jointly designed with Nvidia, Musk said that the new design is simpler, lower cost, higher density and lighter than traditional racks. According to industry group estimates, the cost of a 1 GW orbital data center is about $170 billion, more than three times the cost of a traditional terrestrial data center. However, there are reports that SpaceX has reduced the cost of rocket launches by promoting Starship projects, and the economics of space data centers are expected to gradually improve.
