First Global AI Governance Dialogue held in Geneva

2026-07-07

On July 6, local time, the inaugural Global AI Governance Dialogue was held in Geneva, Switzerland. Over the course of the two-day conference, approximately 1,500 delegates from around the world will engage in discussions on AI governance.

United Nations Secretary-General Guterres。

At the opening ceremony, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated that artificial intelligence is advancing at an astonishing pace. The question is whether we will jointly steer it, or allow it to steer us. The global dialogue on AI governance has, for the first time, afforded every country the opportunity to participate. We must now translate global engagement into global action, making artificial intelligence safer, more equitable, more accessible, and more ethical.

The Global AI Governance Dialogue was established by a resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2025. It is the first global international platform created by the United Nations General Assembly. It aims to bring the governments of 193 UN member states and stakeholders such as the private sector, academia, and civil society. The parties can gather together to conduct a dialogue on building a common path on AI governance.

The first Global AI Governance Dialogue will focus on four priorities: the opportunities and impacts of AI; the gap between capacity building and AI; safe and trusted AI; and human rights and human oversight.
