CANCPEC: Ambassador Jonathan T. Fried appointed as new CANCPEC President

        The Canadian Council of Pacific Economic Cooperation (CANCPEC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ambassador Jonathan T. Fried to replace Ambassador Donald W. Campbell as the President of CANCPEC, effective from June 1, 2025. Ambassador Campbell has served as the President of CANCPEC since 2011 and also as the International Co President of PECC from 2012 to 2020. Mr. Hugh Stephens will continue to serve as Vice Chairman of CANCPEC.

        Ambassador Fried's outstanding diplomatic career in Canada has covered legal, economic, and trade fields. His extensive experience covers a wide range of participation in Pacific economic affairs, including the G7 and G20, serving as Ambassador to Japan and the World Trade Organization, Chief Negotiator for Canada and China's accession to the World Trade Organization, key member of the APEC Vision Group, laying the foundation for the Putrajaya 2040 Vision, and as Executive Advisor to the Canadian Department of Global Affairs, participating in the development of Canada's Indo Pacific strategy. In November 2022, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun and the Gold and Silver Star by the Emperor of Japan, and was awarded the title of Outstanding Researcher by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. hisResume attached

        CANCPEC would like to express its gratitude to Ambassador Campbell, who is currently serving as the Senior Strategic Advisor to Norton Ross Fulbright of Canada. He has previously held positions as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of International Trade, and Ambassador to Japan of Canada. We would like to thank him for his dedicated leadership of CANCPEC over the years and for guiding its work as the International Co Chair of PECC for three consecutive terms.
